To start off, a quick review of my previous to-do list usage. I have been using Astrid android app syncing with Remember the Milk for the past 2 years, and before that I had an iPhone and used an app that synced with Toodledo. I recently decided to look into other Android apps as well as other back-end to-do list managers.

I have been testing the following to-do list android apps and websites for the past few weeks.

Android Apps

  • Astrid
  • DGT-GTD
  • Wunderlist

Astrid

I have been using the Astrid app tied to Remember the Milk for the past year. It is a great to-do list app, and appears to be open-source. Unfortunately, some of the newer features of astrid were against the API rules for Remember the Milk, so the version that syncs with Remember the Milk is no longer maintained.

Remember the Milk has a really good web interface and the Smart Add feature is really slick. The biggest downsides that I have found is that it only allows you to sync once -a-day with the free account, the actual Remember the Milk android app is only for paid accounts, and that the current version of Astrid no longer supports it.

Astrid has just recently(beta) created their own task management web front-end that is completely free. I have actually been really impressed with it. It is very simple to use and has pretty much all of the features of their Android app, which include unlimited syncing and sharing tasks.

The Android app also allows you to sync with Google Tasks. This works overall, however if you are syncing with Astrid as well, I have not been able to image out how to change the lists in Google Tasks, it just puts all to-do items in the default Google Tasks list. You can have multiple lists in Google Tasks though that will sync back to the Astrid app.

DGT-GTD

I have been using DGT-GTD as it has a plugin that allows you to use Toodledo for the backend. Toodledo is another really great web-based to-do list system that seems to have a really great API and that seems to have a few more free features than Remember the Milk, including no limit on syncing. DGT-GDT has a lot of features, such as many different customizable widget styles. It is still a very young app(Alpha) and has a lot of potential.

Wunderlist

Wunderlist is a very sleek and simple Web-based To-do list manager, and they have apps available for most mobile platforms. I found that their Android app is almost identical to their site in terms of look and functionality, so it is a very consistent experience. It is not quite as full featured as many other to-do lists, but it is quite capable.

Summary

Because of the limitations with Remember the Milk, I will no longer be using the older Astrid version. I am going to continue to use both Astrid with Astrid sync and DGT-GTD with Toodledo for a few more weeks until I can really decide which one better fits into my work-flow.
