With all of the sales on Woot and TigerDirect of the GTablets, there are a lot of Gtablets out there now. One of the best ways to increase the capabilities of it is by putting CyanogenMod Rom onto it. I have done this on four different GTablets, so I thought that I would flesh out the steps in case anyone else is looking for detailed instructions on doing the same.

You will want to get the following files:

In all four cases of trying to install CM7 on the GTablets, I have had to use NVFlash, otherwise the device gets stuck in a boot loop. It appears that a number of other people have had similar issues when flashing CM7, so I will include the full instructions for NVFlash as well. NVFlash will wipe all tablet data, so if there are apps or data you want to backup, I would recommend using an app such as Titanium Backup We will follow the following procedures to get CyanogenMod working on your GTablet.

  1. Set up NVFlash
  2. NVFlash the GTablet
  3. Flash TNT 3588
  4. Wipe Data
  5. Flash CM7

Set up NVFlash

Once you have the two NVFlash zip files downloaded(The gtablet zipfile and then the either zip file for your OS), unzip them into the same directory - i.e. make a folder called NVFlash and unzip both files into this NVFlash directory. Also unzip the ClockworkMod file into this directory as well. Open up the gtablet.cfg file and find the [partition] section for id 9. Change where it sets the filename to be recovery.img

NVFlash the GTablet

I use a Linux system, so I will outline fully how to do this on linux, but it is similar on Windows. You can also look here for assistance performing this step on windows.

You will need to put the GTablet into APX mode. You do this by holding the Power-Down button while powering on the device. The screen should remain black if you are in APX mode. Now connect the tablet to your computer with the mini-USB cable. Now open up a terminal and navigate to the NVFlash directory that you created. Once there, run NVFlash with the following command.

./nvflash_gtablet.sh

Flash TNT 3588

Now the GTablet should be on stock Tap-n-Tap but with ClockworkMod installed as recovery. We will now want to flash the most recent version of Tap-n-Tap to the device.(this step and the next may possibly be skipped, but I have done it this way to ensure a smooth transition to CM7)

Copy the TNT-1.1-3588 zip file to the external SDCard. Also copy the CM7 zip file to the SDCard.

Hold the Volume-Up button while powering on the device in order to boot into Recovery Mode(ClockworkMod). In ClockworkMod we will want to highlight ‘install zip from sdcard’ with the volume buttons and then press the home button. Select ‘choose zip from sdcard’ and then select the zip file. After the zip file has been installed reboot the device by selecting ‘reboot system now’.

Wipe Data

You should now have a clean install of Tap-n-Tap version 1.1-3588. We will now want to wipe the data. Boot back into recovery and select ‘wipe data/factory reset’.

Flash CM7

If you have already copied the zip file for CM7 to the external sd card, then remain in ClockworkMod, otherwise copy the zip file to the SDCard. Using recovery mode flash the zip for CM7, just as we flashed the zip for TNT-1.1-3588. Reboot the device and you should now have CyanogenMod 7.0.3 Rom running on your GTablet.
